Raising Awareness
Although I have just recieved some positive feedback from one community centre and that is such a good feeling knowing that more parents are turning to using real nappies.
If parents bought 20 birth to potty pocket nappies, say the most expensive brand at £20 a nappy, they would set you back £400. That would save parents a whopping £924.00!
Disposable nappies make up aboit 4% of household waste and they take 500 years to degrade.
If Henry the VIII where in nappies they would still be degrading now! YUK
We need to be more RESPONSIBLE.
Even if you only used 1 cloth nappy a day in place of a disposable that would sae 730 nappies going into landfill from just 1 baby! that is a staggering amount!
Feedback is always GOOD!
I just wanted to know if you are availble to attended our baby group in March 2010 to give parents information about using cloth nappies (the same as what you did when you attened the session in August 2009). The group runs on tuedsay from 1:30pm - 3:30pm. After your previous talk when you attended the baby group in August 2009 a lot of the parents choose to use cloth nappies.
Yours sincerely,

London Community Recycling Network
The London Community Recycling Network is a community of charities, social enterprises, public sector bodies, individuals and businesses all working to make best use, reuse and recycling of resources for London.
They have taken up the Real Nappies for London project and I have met with them and I am to start doing outreach work with them with Midwives around London giving them a toolkit training session! I am very pleased to be doing this just a little nervous and need to brush up on my public speaking skills. I will be the first person doing this for them so we do so month to month and see how it goes.
wish me luck!

Home Made Beauty Tips
- Soften oats in water to make a good face and body scrub.
- Moisturise your body with olive oil.
- Almond oil moisturises and doubles up as eye make-up remover.
Clear Skin
- For oily skin, make a tonic from orange juice and rose water. For a deep clean, add distilled witch hazel.
- For dry skin, cleanse with natrual yoghurt.
- Steaming is the most thorough cleanse for all skin types. Lean over a bowl of hot water, covering your head with a towel. Add a few sprigs of lavender to stimulate spirit and skin.
Sweetie pie facial scrub and mask
Ingredients
2 tablespoons oatmeal
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon powdered milk
3 teaspoons water
Mix the oatmeal and sugar, then add the milk and finally the water. the mixture should hold together loosely in your hand. If it's too dry to smooth accross your face, add more water. Dampen face and apply using cicular motions. Leave on for 15 minuts while you rest. Rince with warm water and follow with a toner and moisturiser.
Beauty Balm
For rashes, itching dry skin. Comforting Calendula salve.
Ingredients
25g dried calendula (marigold) flowers
150ml olive oil
25g beeswax
The oil base
Place the marigold flowers in a glass jar, pour on the olive oil and leave the mixture to steep. (add lavender heads to add a beautiful aroma) Shake daily for three weeks, then you'll have a soothing iol base for the salve. Strain through a muslin into a bowl, squeezing and pressing until the last drops are filtered.
The salve
Place a heat-proof measuring jug in a saucepan containing about 10cm of water, over medium heat. Add the oil and then the grated beeswax and stir with a chopstick until thoroughly melted. Pour it into wide-mouthed jars and allow to cool and solidify
To perfect your salve drop a small amount of the salve onto a saucer, and pop into the freezer for a minute to cool. If you want harder salve, add a little beeswax. If you don't feel the salve is hard enough, add a little oil.
store away from heat and light.

Real Nappies London Toolkit Training
WEN launched the Toolkit, a presenting aid to help inform parents about the choices in modern washable nappies, and a training programme in October 2005. Since then 180 midwives and health visitors in London have been trained.
Parents are entitled to know that the council will subsidise them a £50 voucher on real nappies that are cotton and are naturally absorbent and easy to clean. This is a greener option as disposable nappies contain chemicals contributing to high carbon emissions.
The Session at Tower Hamlets college went well today we definitely raised awareness among the young early year worker students.

Working For Womens Environmental Network
Thing is... I am nervous as I am not a confident public speaker and I am going to be giving the first demo with Tamara (my mentor) at Tower Hamlets College... where I studied Childcare last year. I will see my tutor and hope that it all goes well! mmmmm....
I cycle to WEN every Tuesday and enjoy every minute of my cycle even if it is up the busy Commercial Rd. I have a sense of freedom brewing inside me.
